Office of Bilingual Education and World Languages - Legal Internship

Program Office/Description: 

The Office of Bilingual Education and World Languages guidance, technical assistance, and support to New York State Districts, Charter Schools, Religious and Independent Schools, educational organizations, and the public in the development of programs for English Language Learners (ELLs) and other Multilingual Learners (MLs) including World Language students.Ìý

The Assignment (Description of Job): 
  • Support investigation of district and school activities relating to the instruction, support, and civil rights of ELLs--including ELLs who are also identified as students with disabilities, multilingual learners, and immigrant students, and other relevant student populations.
  • Support the development of Regents policy and regulatory proposals.
  • Prepare and review memoranda and other resources related to legislation, regulations, and policy statements

Professional Development Plan : 

Interns will get supportive opportunities to develop their research and writing skills, as well as access to Professional Development classes.

Desired Skills, Abilities, & Educational Background: 

Ideal applicants should be enrolled or accepted into a law school working towards their Juris Doctorate degree or should be upper class undergraduate students who are completing a program and/or planning to apply to a law school program upon graduation.

Schedule/Hours: 

Interns may work up to 20 hours each week between 8a-5p. Schedules will be made directly with supervisors.

Paid Internship Hourly Rates: 

This is an unpaid position. We are happy to work with students to help them earn academic credit for their internship with our Department.
