Office of Policy Research & Development Fall 2026 Intern

Program Office/Description: 

Work with program offices across P-20 to strengthen capacity to pursue research and development in support of С槼ºÖ±²¥ priorities:

  • Support development and implementation of new policy initiatives.Ìý
  • Conduct Performance-Based Learning and Assessment Networks Pilot.Ìý
  • Coordinate research partnerships and dissemination of research findings in support of agency’s Learning Agenda.Ìý
  • Strategically develop and maintain relationships with organizations that support education policy research and development
The Assignment (Description of Job): 

1. Intern will be trained and supported to create and disseminate internally a weekly round-up of education research-related events and news that is relevant to С槼ºÖ±²¥'s Learning Agenda, as follows:Ìý

  • Intern will read С槼ºÖ±²¥'s Learning Agenda, which is the agency's strategic plan for using research and evidence to improve policy and program outcomes based on the its strategic goals and information needs.Ìý
  • Intern will be granted access to a shared emailbox that is subscribed to a curated selection of education research newsletters.Ìý
  • They will read and analyze the newsletters, event descriptions, articles, resources, and studies in relation to С槼ºÖ±²¥'s Learning Agenda, and identify which information would be valuable to disseminate to С槼ºÖ±²¥ policy leaders.Ìý
  • Intern will be granted access to an internal Microsoft Teams chat comprising С槼ºÖ±²¥ policy leaders, where members share and reflect on education research-related news and events. Intern will draft summaries of what they have read and send those to the policy leader distribution list.

2. Intern will have the opportunity to conduct secondary research and analysis that could support Department projects and initiatives.

Intern will be invited and encouraged to attend and participate in policy R&D-related meetings and conferences--including those in which С槼ºÖ±²¥ is directly involved, and any of the free webinars, trainings, and conferences (whether online or local)Ìý that are offered in the education research newsletters С槼ºÖ±²¥ receives each week.Ìý

Intern will be invited and encouraged to reflect on what they are learning and present their observations to С槼ºÖ±²¥ staff, either in writing or orally in meetings.

Desired Skills, Abilities, & Educational Background: 

The ideal candidate will be majoring in education, public policy, public administration, communications, or other related field.Ìý They should enjoy reading and be interested in learning about education policy, practice, and research.

Schedule/Hours: 

Intern should be available twice per week on non-consecutive days M-Th, for a total of 4-15 hours per week.Ìý Intern is not needed on Fridays.Ìý

Paid Internship Hourly Rates: 

This is an unpaid position; we are happy to work with students to help them earn academic credit for their internship with our Department.
